You're scaring me now. You said elsewhere that you're considering this as your FIRST car. And, you must drive 70-75 MPH. Good lord.

Jackson MS?

Yeah I lived in Smithdale for a few years - between Brookhaven and McComb. I know the I-55 route all too well. Once you get outside the Jackson city limits, 75MPH is about standard for 10-20 miles, then you can drop down to 60 and not get creamed.

Expect 32-35MPG at the higher speed. The Smart gets 27MPG at max speed (90 MPH) sustained. Drop down to 55-60MPH and you can get almost 50MPG or so on a level interstate.

Just keep in mind the Jackson Stack (55 meets 20) - you'll need practice to get a Smart up to speed when you merge. Some of those jackasses up there don't stop for even a Hummer.

Yeah in jackson ms. Just outside jackson when the speedlimit is 70 is in Madison where i live. Talking about getting up to speed is that really hard to do in a smart. Does it take a long time.??? I know its slow but is it that slow?

0-60 is about 12-13 seconds if you floor it, so it's a couple seconds slower than most other cars. My Explorer (5.7L V8) goes 0-60 in about 9 seconds and does just fine on any road... so if you plan three seconds ahead in an Explorer, plan six seconds ahead in a Smart and you'll be fine. The big power boost comes from 25-50mph, so if you can get past 30 MPH or so (the first 3 seconds), you can punch it and do pretty well. You can put it in manual or auto mode, and the car will even handle 90MPH in 4th gear while encouraging you to upshift.

The only time you'd have to worry is merging into fast-moving traffic, and then you're ok if you just get a running start. Once you're in the flow, the car handles just fine. In fact, I drove 12 hours back from Houston to Mobile and had trouble keeping it under 70 because the little engine just begged to be driven faster and I didn't realize how fast I was going. Paddle shifters make this little buggy fun.
