Hill Start Assist - don't like it!!!

The "Hill start assist" feature on my new Smart Car - I don't like the idea of a one second delay when I let off on the brakes at a stop light. That hesitation bugs me. Anyone know if this feature can be deactivated? If so, how?

you can pull a fuse that does abs, hill start, and traction control.

Yeah, that pulsing from the abs bothers me, too. I think I'll pull that fuse as well. And what's with that roll bar in my cabrio; makes me feel like I'm in NASCAR. I think I'll just sawzall that sucker off.

Yeah, there is nothing I like more than rolling backwards on a hill and putting undue stress on the clutch as it tries to push the car forwards.

People are always going to complain about electronic systems, no matter how helpful.
In this instance, driving properly would fix your problem.

When you stop on a hill, apply the handbrake, release the footbrake.
When you want to pull away, add some throttle and release the handbrake accordingly.

I'm confused. Or perhaps you are.

The hill start assist is meant to hold the car from rolling backwards if you don't do anything when you take your foot off the brake. If you immediately step on the throttle, you'll move smartly away, uphill.

BTW, it also works facing downhill, if reversing uphill.

hmmm, pull a fuse just to disable hill assist, and thereby disabling abs, traction control - nothing like taking a step backwards in safety. Might as well forget to buckle your seat belt too!

Delay of what? Until it accelerates? I think thats the nature of the car. The clutch needs to engage the gear you know.

While you're at it, don't forget to remove the seat belts and undo the relays for the airbags. .....then tell your passengers everything you've done to thwart the safety devices.
