Hit a deer....the good and bad news......

Been busy and not on here much of late....but about a week ago we hit a deer and I thought I would post a note. We hit it at about 40 mph plus. Don't know if we killed it...it stumbled off into the dark and I was in no mood to check....hope it ran out in front of its last car.

Hitting the deer was the bad part. And it damaged the car enough to where it is down right now. The good thing was the insurance guy said for the size of deer we described (hips came up to the bottom of windshield) and how fast we were going it did stand up well. The right front fender will be replaced because it split at the bulge over the wheel well. The headlight lens cracked and the brace that runs around the front held up but the right hand headlight supports broke. The strange thing is the headlight was pushed into the air duct for the defroster (I think) and put a hole in it. They are going to replace it rather than try and fix it. All in all it ended up being about $1500 total. No painting really kept the cost down as paint is the most costly part from what they told me. Not happy another deer has picked my car to die on....but the car did well and cost not too much. Ordering the parts is the slowest part of the whole process.

Darn, you missed out on some tenderized venison for dinner!
Glad nothing happened to you - deer strikes can be very serious to the vehicle's passengers. . . be careful out there!

That's scary man I wouldn't want to see no deer in my path at night. I hope your little buddy gets fixed up quick.

Thankfully you weren't hurt and the car is repairable. My Dad used to sell Isetta 300's some years ago and one of his customers hit a deer (and killed it as I remember). The Isetta had a really rigid handle type of front bumper. There wasn't even any noticeable damage to the car.

Absolutely not. I live in an area that is heavily populated by deer. We see them regularly on the side of roads (and, unfortunately, in the roads). A number of neighbors over the years have tried those deer repellent thingies over the years and the deer just stand on the side of the road at night and watch you go by. Don't waste your money on those things

I heard that the deer whistle is ineffective. Here is an article on it. I read that it does the opposite.

There are times that getting hit by a deer is unavoidable. Many years ago, I had a deer cross a field then a road right into the side of my Sentra. It shattered the drivers side window and broke off my left out side rear view mirror. It was night but it had left. I only saw it a few seconds before it hit my car and it was too late to avoid.

Does anyone out there no if there is any place a person can still get the molded panels in color (white). It seems that they do not make these anymore and you have to get them all in black and have them painted.
We have a 2006 Coupe and the front passenger panels are damaged due to hoodlums tipping it over.
Thanx
Ben
