Horn problem

Has anyone had a problem with your SMART's horn? Yesterday my wife needed to use the horn, but it would not work. Bob, our SMART, has only 600 miles and never a problem. I immediately thought a fuse had blown, but when I removed it, I could see that it was not burned out. I re-inserted it and finally it began to work again. Should you be able to blow it without the motor running?

Thanks

Well, it is sorta wimpy sounding - more of an "excuse me" then a "LOOK OUT!" sort of horn. I don't think the key needs to be on or engine running since it works from the panic alarm key button too.

What is panic button? The horn just would not sound when pressed.

Horn problem

I am not into replacing the horn. Was just wondering why it would not work at the precise moment it was needed. I called the dealer and was told that it probably had blown a fuse, but that was not the case.

The horn does not sound with the car completely off (except for panic alarm). This I found out when I first got the smart and just took it for one of it's quirks.

I've never had the problem you describe. I have upgraded my horn, as have others here, but that hasn't got a dang thing to do with your problem. Even though the original horn is pretty weak, it IS audible.

You say the horn started working normally after you removed, examined and reinserted the fuse. Perhaps the fuse wasn't inserted firmly before and you fixed the problem.
