Hot car, literally

A great car. But she's a greenhouse! I purchased an orphan in January. I couldn't wait... I reserved a black/black but have a silver/black. I'm really glad too.

Because as the temperatures rise, I notice that my baby is a greenhouse.

I have the silver suction-cup roof shade in place (the vendor escapes me). But as I drive, the sun overheats the interior. I find that the dash vents don't point downwards nearly far enough to overcome this heat gain. If I could direct the A/C farther down, I would not be nearly as uncomfortable.

Anyone have an idea what to do?

I'm in the DC area, not the hottest place on earth either. But the near-summer sun can still be brutal!

Your a/c should be able to make the interior comfortable, even in DC (grew up there so I know the heat you mean, it's wicked!). I've had mine in DC in the summer when visiting and it was fine after the a/c had a chance to do it's thing. Some others have posted about a/c cooling problems. I think all were fixed with visit to the dealer.

See the post I tossed on a while back where I show what needs to be clipped to make things work beautifully. I'm not sure why the limited movement but the change is easy to make.

heh heh - AC in DC.

Here in Fairfax I've had no issues at all keeping my black and silver cool. The AC on the lowest setting has more than done the job so far on the warm days. I just pull the sunshade over the panorama roof, flip the AC on low and am nice and cool. Even on a 2.5 hour drive on a bright, sunny day in the 80's I didn't turn the AC up past the second setting, and then only once in a while for short periods- I would actually get cold if I left it on that setting for long.

It sounds like you might have some issues and may want to pay a visit to a dealer.

Duly noted, and thanks!! Since I'll be driving my Cabrio in the Dallas & Gulf Coast heat this July, I'll definitely be looking to squeeze all the efficiency out of the A/C system that I can.

If you leave the sunshade open and leave the car in the sun on a hot day it gets really hot. Thankfully they put large windows on the car to roll down.

I went to Lowe's and bought a roll of foil sided bubble wrap. I originally used it in the windows of my fifth wheeler to keep it cooler. A left-over piece of this cut to size and inserted between the silly panoramic dome and shade stays there year round. Here in the Nashville area it gets hot and this helps a great deal.

To me this is one of those "what would I change about the smart" issues and I would have opted for a real roof and INSULATION.

I'm in Bethesda and don't really have a problem keeping it cool... white/silver/black leather coupe here with a panoramic roof.

The sunshade does really help to keep it cooler though when the sun is beating down.

If you can't get it cold with it cranked, you might want to visit your dealer and have them take a look at it.

The vent mod

I'll try the vent mod to get them directed downwards. I too mentioned this as my "only" complaint. I LOVE SCOA and thanks for the tips !
