How about a rear-view camera for the Smart?

Another interesting item on the Crutchfield site on this page http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...pvs=T&g=277650 is the clip-on mirror monitor and wireless rear-view camera. Not cheap but then remember, it is only money and during these times, we must support the economy... ... I have had the use of a rear-view camera, displayed through the in-dash monitor in a Infiniti for 2 years and found it of great use.

LOL, anyone that needs a backup camera to help park a smart car should not be driving in the first place.

Cool device - on a van. I'd have to agree with evilbean42 if one was seen on a smart.

I imagine that 89 Caprice could use a little help parking - like maybe a couple of tugboats.

Guys, don't jump to conclusions on thinking you may not need one. I can see where one would come in real handy if wanting to back up right next to, say your wall in your garage, and you needed something like a camera on the back pointed down so you can back up to just a couple of inches or so. Pretty neat setup I would think.

If it has any decent down range capability it might be also useful on a cabrio with the top down. It looks like there is merit to be found in it.

I happen to really appreciate having PDC on cars (never had a camera but anything to help see behind the car where I cannot is not a bad thing) but I'm not sure I'll retrofit anything with the Smart, so far it hasn't been an issue for me. Hmm, however, I do have this reverse sensor thing from the UK that we bought for another car and didn't install so maybe I'll try that...

If you want it just for parking in your garage close to a wall though, it might be easier to just get one of those little parking bumps or other parking aids vs spending more and installing anything into the car.

At BJ's, the camera uses the license plate holes, has a small monitor and If I remember right it was $69 or so. Since it's wireless you only have to connect the camera to the backup lights and the monitor to the lighter plug or hard wire it in.

I agree with old smart. A camera on a cabrio could be a real help, especilly if the driver is not real tall.
