I got a newsletter from my local Smart dealer stating that there is a new promotion for financing a 2009 smart at 4.2% APR for all dealerships, and my dealership is offering an even lower rate of 3.9%. I'm a little bitter about this. My question to current Smart owners is, are any of you a bit bothered by this?
I got mine for close to that through my credit union. Why would you be bitter? It's all about the current state of the banks, dealers, and your credit. Rates go up and down all the time.
Go buy a new one. It will make you feel better about your payments. The cars are sitting on the lots. Just like other cars. They want to move the product. That always seems to happen, good interest rate, better cheaper computers, brand new cheaper iphone. Can't always win. That just plain life.

True, I shouldn't say bitter that's too strong, I feel more like I missed out. It's true though that you can't always win. I look at these things a lot closer now with the current state of the economy, and my 14% tuition increase for next year, and the list goes on. Well... at least I have my Smart, and I'm not desperate to trade.
It's just like any other car purchase.....after you buy one, then a new rebate is available or a lower APR.
Just look at it this way; You've had your smart for a while already and have had more fun than what you would have had without it. The price for that fun was your higher interest rate.

Britmck: I know what college tuition cost.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ First year for my daughter at KU. It would have been nice getting a lower interest rate on the car. I have had my car almost a year now. What piss me off, is my Grand Cherokee trade in value is worth a lot more now, then a year ago. It was paid off too. Gas prices too are cheaper now. I haven't saved anything buying this little car. Its just fun to drive it. So don't feel bad about it. The dealers are just trying to get rid of the product. In fact all makes are offering special deals, and rates now.
I just purchased mine last Saturday, 6 June, and had already arranged 5.15% with my bank. I only asked about Daimler financing out of a formality, and much to my surprise, they advised me that the 4.2% had literally just gone into effect.
That was great news, and yes, it made a difference in the payment.
