Go to a scientific supply house and put a big chunk of dry ice (about 1 or 2 cubic feet) in a tote box and leave the top off. You won't believe how effective it is at cooling down the interior!

Whatever you do, do NOT put an open can of soda on top of the dry ice. It will fizzle all out of the can in about 5 seconds. Don't ask me how I know this. All I will say is - 17 years old, 30 years ago, summer job, college science lab, supply room.

DuneRunner's got the right idea, I love all Smarts but when looking at what you get for a couple grand more I can't understand why anyone would pick the Pure..I'll bet they discontinue it next year.

Not so sure: the pure, in some markets, is the basic first car for student and young drivers (Europe).
They are not looking for frills (no electric windows, no AC, no alloy wheels...) but need a simple means of transportation do go from job to classes and park in crowded cities.
Most are opting for bikes and mopeds, some get those semi-covered motorbikes, and some don't trust their safety and want more solid protection.

I did not know that they come without air conditioning, here in Miami I think you need it during the day but I lower the top after work and go to the beach with a frien ( only one now) before I could take more. and it's pretty cool.

You also won't believe how effective it is at asphyxiating you (being frozen carbon dioxide and all that).

From the look of the web site you can get the ac as an option for the pure. Thats what I plan to do. I really dont want power windows that break soon as the warranty runs out . Thats like the second thing to go right after the batterie on any new vehicle.

All kidding aside, there are a number of after-market AC units that can be installed in most cars with limited success (they work, but nowhere near as great as factory units, but they do work better than nothing). Go to your local AC repair shop and ask. The catch is... the smart may have NO SPACE to install one.
