hold the key the same way each time and it is indexed in your hand and you dont need to even look at the buttons anymore

I make sure it's locked each and every time.
I leave nothing in my car. The only thing in there are the solar windshield covers.
Car cover.

And at the end of the day if someone is desperate or determined enough they'll break in anyway.

as far as telling what buttons which you'll notice that each buttons a different height with lock being the tallest thats how i do it

Drive: 2002 European Smart
If you have the fob in your pocket and reach down it can activate and send a signal. I had it happen a couple of times when it was locked and I was working in the garage. I heard the beeps and realized I had unlocked the car. Just my .02c
