I got put on the Orphan List last week...strange how we both have the same date on the DDE and I reserved in January. We get the short end of the stick because we are in Southern California so we have to wait longer...

I was put on the Portland orphan list in mid-February and picked up our car the 1st week of March. We had been offered six car before we were offered a blue/silver w/red passion coupe that my wife could live with. I'm pretty sure things have changed significanly since gas prices went thru the roof. I know we bought our Honda Civic Hybrid in December for below MSRP!

I have an orphan but never went on any list. arrived at the dealer around 3:30pm on a Friday and purchased it at about 5:00pm. I didn't pick it up until 4:30 the next day because I had them add a few things. I can't complain one bit, and I know that those that wait will realize once they get their Smart Car it was worth it.

We waited 2 1/2 weeks after being placed on the list and turned one down because we had our heart set on a silver tridon cell. We took our Black/Silver/Red Passion and are happy with it. The one I have configured has more options and is white. We plan to take it as well. My wife and I will each have one and our van will stay parked except for family trips and moving big items.

At the dealership in Winston-Salem I did not encounter any premium installed options and did not have to pay a deposit to be on the waiting list.

I got mine the next day after talking to the sales people. My wife waited about a week.

I reserved in April 2008 and started calling around for orphans... if I was willing to pay $2K over MSRP for a bunch of options that I didn't want I could have had the car within a week...

I finally got one after 6 weeks of waiting with no extra crap!

less than a week

I noticed a few Smarties on my mom's block in NYC and finally got around to calling the NYC dealership in early May. Less than a week later, I had my car. I told the dealer that I had no color preferences and would basically take any available car. I had no idea until later that week (when I joined this forum) how lucky I was. Apparently the dealership is really 'clean' -- no BS when it comes to putting down a deposit or paying for extras. I also got lucky because they were just about to receive their next batch of cars when I initially called.
