What's this list everyone keeps talking about????

Okay. I'm a little confused. My boyfriend and I reserved our SMARTs in the beginning of May 2008. When we were there the dealer made no mention of an orphan list. He said you just had to call in or stop by and ask if they had one. He said if I really wanted one to call once or twice a week. He said since we had cars on reserve that gave us priority over Joe Public that walked in off the street looking to buy.

BUT if there is a LIST I can get on.........................

I'm going to have to swing by this evening after work.

About the only thing I can think of is that the dealership didn't open till this past January and I think it opened on back order.

Check this tidbit out: North Hollywood ($2000 dep) says they have 100 people on their list! I just called Bev. Hills (I got on their list on Monday 6/9) and I am number 19 with no deposit!!! Very interesting.... Wonder how long it takes to get through 19 Smarts, they would only tell me that it is very sporadic.

Sugar Land requires a $500 deposit, and there were 130 people on it as of last week. I was told an 8 month wait for an orphan!

Ah well, gives me more time to come up with a sizable down payment.

How long before.......

I put down my reserve 6-11-08. I called the dealership in Bloomfield Hills Michigan and the lady there said it would be 18 to 20 months before it would arrive. Let's see.......I'm 69 right now so... that period of time would make me about 71 years old, actually closer to 72. I hope I can still drive at that age.

Did she say how many people are on their list? Might as well just wait for one straight from the factory.

Okay. I stopped by the dealership this evening and asked about the orphan list. They're not doing one there. They said they tried doing it when they first opened, but were having such a hard time getting ahold of the people that they gave up. So now they say if you want an orphan you have to call. That's fine. This way I don't have o worry about them calling me before I'm ready.
