How many 2X4's will a Smart carry?

Went to Lowes today to get some lumber and was not sure how many studs the Smarty could carry. Put the top down on the Cabrio, and guessed at maybe 6 would fit with the front passenger seat down. For those that do not want to guess anymore, the magic number is 6. Suggest a towel wrap to protect the interior. Only good for you convertible folks.
Also filled up today for second time and got 41.5 mpg in mixed city and highway. Just wanted to give a little needed info.

Steve

You could probably get many more than 6 in the smart, if they were all 1'6" long!

For coupe owners:

Just leave the tailgate window open!

Reminds me of the time I bought a 4x4x8 and took it home in my Neon. Slid it in through the trunk and the folding rear seat back ... bumped the windshield with a corner of the lumber and cracked the windshield.
Glad you came out better than that!

Never mind about the tailgate window idea

I worked at a Dodge dealer in a rural community, A guy broght in a Dodge Omni with a burned out clutch. He was upset it would only handle 3 120lb bales of hay..

I hauled 14 concrete blocks with mine.11 in the back and 3 in the passenger floorboard. Building a retaining wall in the backyard and ran short. I didn't feel like taking the F250.
