After 1,300 miles, my smart has replaced 'sneezing' as the second-greatest pleasure I have in life. NO problems. LOVE it! In fact, the smart has now replaced the Bentley Continental GT as my official dream car.
My passion has that wind-whistling noise too. Around 50mph to 70mph as well.
Did you manage to find the source of problem?

The rubber seal looks great on the door so I don't think it is from that, but I will need to put a water hose to it to see if there is a possible leak problem. It seems to whistle most around 50 to 60 mph. Doesn't seem to do it on the drivers side. Anyone else had any issues like this? Oh, it is a passion, not a cabrio.
Actually, I think I had a little whistling on the passenger's side too. I haven't heard it since I installed my amp and speakers though! hehehe
Seriously, I will leave the tunes off at lunch and see if it is still there.
Well, I have just arrived back from Orlando,Florida on a 1989 mile trip in the smart. It was a good trip and the smart performed as expected. No major problems at all. The only issue I had (and it was later in the first day of the trip), was with the a/c. When it got around 87 deg. outside I turned the a/c on and put it in recirculate mode with a fan speed of 1. It started cooling immediately and all was well till about 30 minutes later we noticed that it was starting to get warm in the car. The a/c was putting out cold air but was just not cooling down the car like it was before. Turning the fan up to high did not make much difference. I then turned the a/c off and left it on vent. Shortly we noticed that a fog mist started coming out of the vents and the air seemed to be blowing faster and faster. Long story short, it had froze up. It would appear that you do not need to run the a/c on recirc. with the fan speed set low and temp set very cold. We then just turned on the a/c in normal mode and put the fan on 2 or higher and never had any issues again. Oh, and with driving 75 to 80 on the interstate with a/c on I was still able to achieve 43.8 miles to the gallon. I am pleased. ALSO, we seen two trailer truck loads of smarts heading west out of Jacksonville Florida to their new owners somewhere. We only seen two other smarts being driven though, a yellow/black and a white/silver (like mine). I now have 10k miles on mine. Time for the first maintenance check.
OH, you got all the features I want, exept I want metalic red with Black Tridion.

I got lucky in that while I reserved late and had yet to recieve a chance to do the real order, I was able to get a Smart the 1st weekend they were in Chicago. Seems the person who had reserved it wanted to export it and that is a big dealer agreement no no. So, they had an orphan and I adopted it.
As far as the dealer experiance, I thought it was 1st rate. I have done several deals at Carmax and really liked their no nonsense aproach. Buying a Smart is similar. The price is the price, so no one gets a better deal, or can give one. It's tax, title, license, and your done.
I did take an extended warranty of 5 years/ 75000 miles, but that was it. Finance was a snap, and they all seemed really happy to have things rolling.
The car feels good. More solid that you expect and in my opinion, you can tell it is a Daimler product. Drives very German (as in solid). The interior does NOT have plastic for miles, almost seems plush. The top speed is 90 MPH, but if it were not limited to that I'm sure it would go faster. For me that is important because you can cruise at 70mph all day and have power to pass and the engine does not seem to be working too hard.
It is very quite until you get past 70 mph and then it is wind noise that ramps up higher then I'd like. So I'll drive 70, ok?!
Does well in the snow, with the traction control etc. It reminds me of an old VW beetle in that with the rear drive and engine it will just go where you put it in the snow.
No oil use, and 35 MPG in mixed driving.
Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE says it is "Cute".
They are also surprised by the price. One guy guessed I payed twice as much as I did.
So after a week, I am driving it every chance I get, and I'm more impressed each time.
Oh and filling it with gas is less then $30. My Durango cost $70. The Durango is spending more time parked lately. (-;
