HyperMile

Greetings All

Most know I am a 450 owner and only post in the General section when it may be prevalent to both the 450 and 451, now having said that, it's disclaimer time

This post is NOT to encourage, sanction, vilify, debate, the merits of ANY these claims, YET it has raised my curiosity enough to test it myself

Google acetone and gas, and WOW what a deep line (in the sand) this has caused. I have seen some outrageous claims and some modest claims, not knowing what to believe, I've decided test it for myself .

This means I need to find NON E10 gas, bench mark that, then try the various ratios of acetone to gas mixtures .

This won't be a quick test (1 tank every 2 weeks), but I will test it and report what I find (most likely as another HyperMile segment on the 450 thread).

I have read ALL the precautionary posts, ALL the positive posts and ALL the negative posts, yet still very curious to try this myself (BY NO MEANS will what I find be the final word on this) to find out.

I still have 2 blips to go through and want to run a tank of NON E10 gas (benchmark) before I try this, BUT I figured it may be interesting reading for some

Later All

From the little research I've done after your post, it looks like a pretty bad idea. In order to do any kind of accurate test, you'd have to know pretty well how your mileage is right now -- exact to within about 1 or 2%. If that's not the case, your test won't be easy to gauge.

Then there's the possibility that other factors might affect your mileage, up or down. For example, the outside temperature (and maybe even the humidity?) might cause a small change. Then there's your own driving techniques -- are you going to drive exactly the same way? Even hitting a few tollbooths differently will cost you up to 2%, according to some hypermilers I read.

And don't forget the chance that the acetone will hurt your car, either superficially (paint job) or internally (rubber rings, etc), which would be worse.

Let's just say that I'm glad that someone ELSE is running this experiment, rather than me. Good luck.

Fully aware

unicycle

I have lamented about this post and the consequences of such a post

But as a tester, there was no turning back

I am aware of ALL the down falls, BUT curious enough to see what this test could result

Time will tell

ps. I do have some history in HyperMileing The Final Chapter Has Begun
