One reason that many of the new cars look like a "robot egg" is the Euro pedestrian protection regs. The only way to meet them is to have some crush space above the engine to absorb the impact of striking a walking person. This results in similar looking cars ahead of the windshield. Aerodynamics and packaging for 4 seats gives us the rest of the egg shape. Soon all cars in this class will look like some kind of Prius......

That said I am sorry that they didn't continue with the look of the first Insight, I just loved the rear quarter view of the faired in wheels.

I too am inclined to wonder where they found $5K to leave out of a Civic. If true, looks like a winner, despite it's unfortunate resemblance to a Prius. Excellent alternative for folks with kids at home. Interesting to dee what finally hits the market at what price.

If its true... ($18.5K - which remains to be seen) I fear it may lower the resale value of my Smart...

Hey, perfect replacemet for the notsominivan, those things are gargantuan.
I'm originally from Argentina and grew up sitting in the back of a Renault 12 sharing the back seat with two older siblings, I'm not traumatized.
The new Insight looks like plenty of room to me.
