I got my smashed up little smart BACK today!

After smashing up my little guy almost a month ago, I finally picked it up from my dealership today after they finished repairing it.

You can check the original posting about my accident here:

CLICK

I haven't driven it too much today, but it looks great. I am very worried that it'll be rattling and shaking, but so far, so good.

The guy who sold me the car, Jon Monroe of Keeler Motors in Latham, NY, was absolutely great through the entire process, constantly checking up on the car for me and staying in touch. He also managed to throw in my 10000 mile checkup as a gift. The 2.0 upgrade was also done while they had the car, so I feel like I have a brand new car back. Anyway, I'm delighted to be back in my smart, and I'll let you know about the status of my new front end after I've driven it around for a few days.

Late last week, after the negative crash test results came out, the local Albany, NY news interviewed me and another smart owner about our personal experiences with crashing our smart cars. You can see that news story by clicking below.

Thank you again to Jon Monroe of Keeler Motors in Latham, NY for excellent service. He took care of me like a Mercedes owner.

He certainly went the extra mile, and then some.
I've read a lot of negative stuff on here about shady dealers who push extras, scalp orphan adopters, and mistreat new owners.

If I was mistreated by my dealership, believe me, I'd be on this forum screaming bloody murder. If I'm ready to do that, I should be equally ready to offer kudos for doing the right things.

Of course, the Mercedes comment was meant to indicate that i was treated the same as the buyers who purchase the big ticket autos at the building next door to the smart building.

I appreciate your basic description of the crash without loud opinions like negativity vs. the Dodge. You kept it simple: you were hit, turned, lifted, and walked away. Would have been super cool to include the fact that both sets of airbags deployed; that indicates a level of impact that goes beyond fender bender.

It's really, really, impressive to know that you can have that impact and the inner Tridion isn't bent - at least not enough to affect safety/stability. Confidence increases every time I read a story like yours.

During my interview, I DID mention that the airbags in the Intrepid deployed. Mine didn't. I literally bounced off them. My Tridion cell bent only in one place, which was at the bracket bolting it to the front end. That bent slightly. The other guy in the story, his impact was MUCH fiercer, since he hit a truck from behind after hitting some black ice. His airbags deployed, and his Tridion buckled from the impact, and amazingly, he walked away uninjured. His smart was totaled, but it completely protected him. After my crash, I actually feel MUCH safer.
