I believe managment is limiting their exposure by reducing the numbers of cars sent to areas without convenient access to dealer repairs. In the event of a problem necessatatiing warranty work, I doubt smart wants to be on the hook for having to tow the thing hundreds of miles to a facility..and hundreds back again. They seem to do this for a few cars..but I doubt they'll want to for large numbers.

I think, if you don't have one already, you NEED to campaign to get a smart center built near you!

I don't understand this reservation thing.
Did you special order from the factory?
The ones on the lot were the wrong color ect?
If I decide to buy tomorrow, I will just pick what they have from in stock, which is about 16 cars to choose from.

Hi Saskdiesel, welcome to the forum. The marketing here is really different from Canada. You have had smarts for much longer than we have. Plus no diesel here. There are so many people interested in smarts here, that the reservation, wait, and delivery has been running 9-12 mos. There are a few orphans around as well. Good luck picking your new smart.

my DDE is saying 18 months until MY delivery. and i haven't configured yet either. based on that info, probably won't until December or so. AND now we have to factor in the 'China Syndrome'.....many smarts now will be going THERE instead of here, starting in mid-2009.

i certainly hope smart is considering opening a new plant SOMEWHERE to handle all these orders........;)

I can't believe that deliver / ordering / confirmations will take so long. This kind of a long wait will drive many away from the smart car, including myself.

probably not, but maybe....do you check your 'spam' files daily? i've found responses from smartusa in THAT file in the past and i've read on here that others have too.

i would check with them and make sure you haven't already been asked, especially you "dd1"
