I showed my Smartie at the WV Car Show.

This weekend for 3 days I decided to show my smartie off at the Charleston WV car show. It was a great time. It really was an Antique and Classic Car autoshow, but I get so many questions about my smartie, I decided to show it off at the Auto Show. For $25 I got to park it. I got a T-Shirt and a Plaque in return. I wasn't sure about the response I was going to get. I got there late on Friday and there were many cars already there. I had to drive in front of everyone to find my parking spot, but on the way I saw nothing but smiles. When I found my parking spot the guys next to me in a 1970's black Monte Carlo, asked me if they charged me half price, because I only took up half the parking spot. Everyone was really cool about me being there. It was so funny, alot of people would just walk past all the other cars, and then they would come to mine. Then they would circle the car, and then proceed to ask qustions. What is the gas milage, where can they get one, how much does it cost? I swear, I was asked those questions 100's of times. So on Saturday I made a flyer and stuck it in the window. That helped alot , but I still got the questions, everyone wanted how safe it was, and Then I would talk about the safty sell. Sorta a Roll cage on wheels speach. They wanted to know how it handled hills and how it handled corners, and how it felt when trucks went by. Then there were hundred of pictures taken of my car. Family's took pictures with there kids in front of my car. It felt really good that they thought it was cool enouph to take a picture home. I was out there for 14 hours on Friday and Saturday and then for about 9 hours on Sunday. I've only had my smartie for about 30 days, and it still looks and smells new. I put a little wax on it, and shined the tires and dusted the interior. Lucky in the last 30 days, I drove my car 2700 miles, so I had enouph experience behind the wheel, I was able to talk about handling. I had a wonderful time. I'm looking forward to the West Virginia Smarties Fall Meet on October 25th.

If you saw me there, it was nice talking to everyone. Most people where really kind. I love to talk to people and this was a great way to show off my smartie.

I would love to know if anyone I talked to concidered getting one and even decided to reserve one.

Wish I could have been there with my two....I took mine to the 'fair' that we have here every summer. And like you I got a lot of attention. 99% was positive....but I did get a few negative folks. One guy told me 'I'd never drive that....if you pulled out in front of a speeding semi(truck) you'd die'. When I asked if he pulled out in front of speeding truck often they moved on.....

I do a show almost every weekend. For the shows that are a little further away I take the Smart to help defray the cost instead of driving a 10-17mpg 350-450hp beast. (my "other" cars that I take to the shows) The car always has generally positive reception. Some are overly enthusiastic when they see it, just like what everyone experiences every so often. "Certain" select individuals I even invite to have a seat inside the car and get their picture taken (not by me!)

The reason I like going to shows is it is a chance to get together with like minded people - car people. If you get a chance to hit a show with your local Smart club, jump on it as it is well worth it. Just don't get drawn into the idea of always wanting a trophy - not a reason to go as the trophies tend to clutter up the house once you hit several dozen.

Our local club is attending this show and they will most likely give the Smarts our own category since there have been several already entered. We'll have to cross our fingers.
