Well over $4 at most everyone but Costco and a few Arco stations here in Los Angeles. I don't see a lot of SUV owners running to the exits.

All good reasons to go for a smart now, perhaps something that will burn ethanol, or hydrogen alter, maybe an all electric when they can get them to perform and wrench the price down.

Equally glad I got rid of 2 stroke Jetski fuel pig. With my MP3 and Smart, gas isn't even a concern. I fill my tank every week. Don't usually wait until I am near empty. Haven't cracked $20 bucks yet. My old truck use to cost me $65-$70 bucks a pop. That hurt even though I am in a position to pay that and more. To all those that laugh at my car at work, I love to butt in when one is complaining about the price of gas. I tell them I hope it goes to $8 a gallon.

I have 4 people and 5 cars in my household, plus 2 mopeds and 4 bikes. When gas reached $3/gallon, I started really cutting back and researching for another vehicle. We live close enough to work and school so we can choose to bike or use the mopeds, weather permitting. I save hundred$ per month by only driving when required.

I now drive my 2008 fortwo Passion for 99% of my trips.

The other vehicles are driven only on an "as needed" basis.

2006 Dodge Grand Caravan: driven only when absolutely necessary, perhaps 4 times a month.

1995 Ford Escort wagon: the mom taxi, driven about 10-15miles per day.

1994 Ford Escort wagon: the college student, driven about 6 miles a day.

1977 Reliant Robin 850: driven about 10 times per YEAR

Last spring I gave a talk in Berlin and had a free day, so I spent it driving the Autobahn as fast as I could, for as long as I could. Out of fear of enraging any environmentalists here, I won't say how fast or long that was, but I did pay around $6/gal for the privilege.

On the flight home, I was seated next to a guy from Scotland who said that he was paying a bit over $9/gal at home.

And that was last year ...

Garage
Current UK prices

Just for grins, here are prices around Salisbury:

Your search for SP2 0HW found 18 petrol stations within 10 miles.
Including your 2 closest stations: Bp/spar Westacre (BP), and Shell Bemerton (Shell).
Unleaded Diesel LRP Super LPG
The Highest price in this area: 111.9p 122.9p n/a 117.9p 55.9p
The Average price in this area: 107.8p 118.2p n/a 113.6p 54.2p
The Lowest price in this area: 104.9p 113.9p n/a 109.9p 52.9p

Current exchange rate: 1 GBP = $1.9813, so roughly $8/gallon.

Lots of people tried to explain that payback theory to me when I bought my Insight. But what they forgot was
trade-in of used Expedition with $5 gas:worthless
value of extremely efficient car at $5 gas: priceless
I sold my Insight for more than I paid for it after 40,000 miles, how'd the guy with the Expedition do?
