I paid $3.90-something in Schaumburg last June, so $4.20 now doesn't surprise me.

I sold my Suburban (2000 2WD,2500)in July 2006. At that time it was costing me $100 per week for my commute. I started driving my Smart in January,2008 using it for exactly the same commute and it cost $26 per week.

The irony here is that the Sub was worth at most $5000 on trade (250,000 miles). I sold it on E-Bay for $6300 to Universal Studios. If you ever see the movie "The Kingdom" look for the third Suburban in the convoy**the one that gets hit by an RPG and explodes -that one was mine. (I even saw the Magnaflow cat-back system I put on it when it was on it's side and burning)

I do love my truck (use it for pulling the camper and boat) but I hate the price of diesel right now!! Don't get bad gas mileage about 22 MPG....but I'm getting the smart specifically for a work commute vehicle.. 64 miles daily round trip!!!! From what I read, it'll do the job for what I'm expecting!!

i sold a '98 metro 1 liter last summer for 50% over kelly blue book, i was going to sell it to my brother for $3000 (KBB was $2100) he was going to buy it, then he looked at KBB.com, he said it was worth $2100, i told him KBB wasn't paying $3.00 a gallon and told him to "pound sand", i listed the metro on craigslist for $3300 and sold it in less than 24 hours and the buyer was happy to fork over the $3300!!! my brother realised his mistake later that week and kicks himself now and then. i took him and my nephew for a ride in my smart a couple months ago, they loved it! i paid $3.67 for 93 octane at sams club 4 days ago (woodridge, il)

IF gas reaches $4, $5 a gallon or higher in the US,
Bob, you mean WHEN, not 'if', right?

Just had an e-mail that gas in Saudi Arabia is all the way up to $0.72/gallon. It's time to find another source - I for one am tired of subsidizing their lifestyle. And I don't want to hear about shipping costs and old worn out refineries. I really wish the US had it's own large reserve and we could cut the cord now. My smart will help until ethanol or hydorgen can be developed. Oops! I didn't want to go there. ;(

Without straying too far afield here, what I find unbelievable is we in the US seems to think low gas prices are our right; everybody else pays $7 or $8 a gallon, we start screaming when it goes over $3. We are fast finding out how the rest of the world lives and why they drive those funny little cars with the tiny engines. The party, IMHO, is over and we're the ones waking up with the hangover.
