Adopted a cokitiel once that was raised, we guess, next to a phone and answering machine. Case in point:
2 am. The phone rings. Someone rushes to the phone and answers. No one there, and the bird chirps to himself. Go back to bed
3pm The phone rings. Pick up, no one there. Bird chirps to himself.
7am Phone rings. Pick up on first ring. No one there, phone keeps ringing. Rings are coming from cage. Bird rings, then chirps quietly, beeps, chirps quietly.
What we figure is that the bird learned to ring like the phone at his last home, imitate the machine message, beep, and someone leaving a message.
We couldnt handle it all night long so we gave it to a new family. They told us that it never happened again.
Crazy bird.
