I went on ahead and bought the full warranty. The GM made a point in saying that smart being a very new model and not alot of history, that the extension would be good insurance should something go wrong. And after alot of thinking, I caved. I'd rather have it and not use it then Need it and not have it...
I took nuttin - no tire warranty, just the factory 2-year warranty. I'll take my chances.
No one is pestering me much these days. We are all in to much of a hurry to get inside out of the Cold to chit chat these days, and since your time at the Gas pump is so short no one has a chance to catch you.

We've had our smart about seven months and are at about 6200 miles on it. I changed the oil and filter at 3,000 just because that's what I do with all my vehicles. Personality thing, I can't help it. I'm sure the engine will blow up if I don't change the oil at 3,000. Yep, I know... my wife tells me that too...
Hey, we have enough smarts running around Phoenix and Scottsdale now that the newness has almost worn off. We still get cornered on occasion but for the most part we can actually go to and from the grocery in normal time, as we can with the Ford truck.
I hope you all have a good time with your smarts. And no, you don't have to change the oil and filter at 3,000 miles, unless you are so compelled...
You sound like my brother, change it or blow the engine. I'm sure that's what he'll tell me when I tell him the intrivals on this thing... But out of my own paranoia, I'm doing similar.
I agree. I have driven my pickup for 12 years and only had a minor fender bender with it. I plan to drive my little car the same way; safely. With it being small and maneuverable, I think it would be easier to avoid an accident.
As for the 'unsafe in an accident' line, just say that you just won't get in an accident.
Actually, what I tell folks is that it is built similar to a NASCAR - completely enclosed in a role cage, and that it is actually safer than a lot of other small cars.

That's what I told him, it didn't seem to click. I think he thinks I'm brainwashed. At least I know he worries about me. Awww...
I haven't gotten into any accidents or gotten ticketed. 6 years clean and counting.
As for getting noticed, I've gotten more compliments so far than anything. 15 compliments to 2 negative comments. One fellow said he was deeply thinking of getting one and asked how I liked it. Of course I said I love it. Is two days enough to love?

Just explain to him that he can express his opinion to you once he has taken over your car note
There are 3 dealers within a ~30 mile radius here in DC - they are becoming a more common sight on the roads. I still get the looks, and people ask a lot of questions though. Driving back to Ohio is hilarious though - stopping for gas or a break in some of the mountain towns out in the Alleghenys get some odd and very confused looks still. The truckers seem to love it, though - I tend to hold the trucker lanes in the hills to not work it too hard, but when I finally venture out and stick my foot down - I usually get a look or a toot when I pass.
Parked under the canopy at Lowe's yesterday to dash in for something. Found smartie swarmed by 10 people on my return. Sales people and customers. Wished I could have given them rides, but had work waiting. Still getting smiles, waves, and thumbs up on the road.
Still makes me smile when I see him parked.
More people know about the good crash tests and mileage.
2 other smarties are showing up in the neighborhood.
