Immediate Help Needed to unlock my smart

Hi,

I lost one of my keys and the other is locked in the smart. Tripple A guy is very nice but hasn't opened a smart before. Can it be jimmied or will I damage something? Thanks

Call 1 800 smartusa is my best suggestion.
Unless someone else has an idea?
I read somewhere around here that the lock on the driver side can be mechanically open (but not closed) with a key, via a bicycle brake like cable that runs from the key cylinder to the lock, if that helps.
Don't forget that damaged lock may mean new keys, at $300 a pair!
Good luck. BTW, I hope you are home?

My dealer had to replace the lock/latch on my driver side door a couple of weeks ago. I don't think it can be jimmied by normal means from what I saw of the interior... I agree though... call smart road service.

Call a professional locksmith - do NOT let AAA do it......
I do work for some locksmith companies - they could probably get in and not damage the locks

Wow, you got me thinking. As many times as I've had my panels off I didn't even think to look at what is required to "slim jim" the locks open. One more thing to look at next time I pop my door skins off.

I hope you've got it open by now.

Got it open

Thanks for the quick replies. Four, yes 4, Triple A guys showed up. One guy with 30 years of experience was able to use a "wonder bar" to pull up on the passenger side door handle inside the panel.

Yes I was/am at home.

Now to fork out the supposed big bucks to get a replacement. Oh well. we own two Smarts and love them.

Thanks again for the quick responses. The world really is a good place.

Example: I did this.

Open the hatch with the remote; this leaves the two front doors locked.....
Open tailgate...
Put key on tailgate or carpet whilst loading the boot...
Slam the tailgate; slam the glass....
Look through glass at key now sitting in a locked car.... :-(

got it?

Call wife... have wife open car and laff at you senselessly

Cheers

But inquiring minds really want to know how the heck you locked your keys in, when you only have one set. That way we don't do it to ourselves.
