Now that makes perfect sense. I don't think I can pull the slam the glass shut trick. I have a cabrio and you have to unlock the whole car to unlock the gate. My button I have for mine is the top going back. Not the gate/glass opening like on the coupe.

No, I'll be working all day most likely even though I normally cut out early on Friday - hard to say as next week I'm taking off ALL week! (Orlando here I come! plus I have to study for an $important$ te$t)

I might pop off a door panel this weekend just to take a look-see. The wheels are turning now but if I figure out a secret I doubt I'll advertise.

I remember looking at the window regulator on the Smart one of the times I had a skin off and mentioning how it was an ingenious design (if you've replaced an Mustang regulator you'll know what I mean by a bad design).

Did you get it open yet prpsrv?

So, what does this mean as far as the break-in-ability of the Smart? A true thief would probably smash the glass because it's easier, right? I've got the alarm, so I'm not horribly worried. How about starting it without the key? Supposedly impossible, but nothing ever is. Has anyone's car been stolen without the key?

I have unlocked the dors and heard them re-lock by themselves a couple of times. Not sure why but I always pull the key when I get out of the car.

I wouldn't mind a keypad on the door like most of the newer cars have.

Auto re-lock is a documented security feature (that's perfect for messing with friends). If you don't open the door, it'll re-lock after a minute. If you leave the keys in, theory is that you can't lock from outside without another key. Unless you do the back glass thing.

There is another way to lock yourself out, from an earlier post:
Quote:
Handy when the key's battery is dead:

Quote:
> Open the driver's door
> Press the central locking switch (dashboard)
The indicator lamp on central locking switch comes on when starter switch is in position 1
The indicator lamp on central locking switch flashes when starter switch is in position 0, car beeps once
> Remove the key from the starter switch, TAKE IT WITH YOU, and close all doors.
The vehicle is now locked and the anti-theft* warning system is armed.

*if opted
IMPORTANT WARNING: CAR LOCKS; IF KEY'S INSIDE, YOU'RE LOCKED OUT!...

No need for a key, just get a friend to help you lift it into the back of your truck
