Immobilizer standard? New owner . . .

Hi . . New to this forum as I just took delivery of a Smart Passion with absolutely no upgrades. Black/Black; beige interior (which is playful and great to look at - especially the dash and contrasting hard finishes). Wondering if the ignition immobilizer is a standard feature as seems to be indicated in the manual? Or is it part of the inexpensive factory alarm system? The standard key looks exactly like the keys found on German cars.

All help is appreciated. The car is running beautifully thus far. Produced 12/07 and took delivery last week. Were all of the fixes described on this forum taken care of at the port? Pete

The car is immobilized when placed in PARK and the key removed. All vehicles with or without the alarm have a PARK position.

You will have to ask your dealer if the 001 service bulletin (shift linkage) was done to your car at the dealership. Cars sent to dealers in January had to have this fix done at the dealer.

Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly! I did not know about the "001 service bulletin (shift linkage) was done to your car at the dealership." I took delivery of my car on Feb. 23d and it arrived at the dealership on Feb. 22nd from the PDC at the port. Can I assume that the "001" shift linkage was performed on my car? Thanks again! Peter

One should never assume that a dealer mechanic did anything. Always get it in writing. It should have been, but who really knows?
