I am from the USA I see them in Canada and my only experience with importing a car from Canada was when my Canadian friend gave me a1988 Mercedes Benz.
I was told it must have a speed-O that reads in MPH and an EPA approval sticker under the hood. The car was old and dirty and it was a weekend and I got the OK-but some how I don’t think the smart well is so easy!
Anyone have any experience with importing a diesel smart to USA?
I looked into importing years ago and decided it wasn't worth it. There are both federal and state regulations that have to be applied, and for most cars if it's not a car made for sale in America it's a bear to import. The state regs are often more stringent than the federal regs.
Most of the time, unless it is a car on their list, it has to go to an importer that will bring it up to US standards. Not too many cars on the list, mostly BMW and MB.
