I've driven in every region of the United States and several Europeon countries (Italy, Austria, France, and Germany) and YES on average we Americans are dumb when it comes to driving.
We talk on the phone, eat, text, answer emails, read, put on make up, and do just about everything but pay attention to driving the car.
It's that side airbag I'd guess........ and msjohnson, you are correct. I pulled one over once who was holding the cell with her right hand, dangling her left out the window, and steering with........ her knee. By her own admission.........

At least we don't stop on a lane barely wide enough for two Minis to pass, and bordered by hedgerows, to have tea, or leave our trucks parked in the roadway at night with no lights on. Oh yeah, and overtake going up a blind hill in the fog. Every locale has its share of of clueless motorists

Yes, every country has thier idiot drivers ours just happen to litter the expressways, the Italians do have plenty on the secondary roads... I did once see an old man in Romania light a fire under his 30 year old truck to warm the engine prior to starting it up.

and we will be told it is because americans are so busy they have to multi-task to fit everything in. this is in a country that criticizes concepts like a 35-hour work week, and feels over-time is not just an entitlement, it's an obligation.

I like my 24-hour work week.
I know what you mean on the mandatory OT, worked for a company that based full utilization/chargeability on a 45 hour work week.
Just need to work for the right company... we (my new compnay) have a good work/life balance (overtime is not the norm), lots of company social events, and no one looks down on those heading out to vacation.

So if I disconnect the battery how hard is it to remove the seats to get to the recline mechanism?
