Interesting issue. I got my notification from Smart that my car would be here within 30 days. When I called my insurance company to get a quote (Geico) they would only offer me liability (no collision or comprehensive) and the Progressive web site threw a wheel when trying to get a quote there.

Who out there is insuring Smarts fully at this time?

Same here with State Farm, smart is even shown online at statefarm.com for a quote. I got exactly the same word from Geico, NO! Also got quotes from Auto Club So Cal, Progressive and Mercury. State Farm was lowest.

I'm now with Costco/Ameriprise. They said no to the smart. I will be moving to State Farm.

Mercury--less to insure the smart than my 2001 Prius

?? Insurance other than State Farm

Anyone know of other insurance companies that will insure Smart cars other than State Farm? Not fond of State Farm from previous dealings long time le ago and issue of replacement parts.

See above, I got higher quotes than State Farm from Auto Club So Cal, Progressive and Mercury.

Not a lot of aftermarket replacement parts for the smarts right now. So that's not a problem for me. I have had that kind of problem with several companies over the years, nothing unique.

I've got Allstate but,

haven't tried yet w/o a VIN# (I'm a 1188 so won't see the car for awhile yet) ... Allstate does have an on-line quote site but I'd doubt they've loaded smart as a choice yet because its so new ... my agent is great so I doubt I'll have an issue but we'll see ... I'd give them a try if I was you

Try Allstate... I gave my agent the VIN # and his system didn't take it. He checked and it works in other states (just not Nebraska yet) so he submited a problem ticket to have the Smart car added. He said it would be a couple days and it should appear in the system here in Nebraska. (fingers crossed)

We are on the bleeding edge my friends!

This may not help everyone but if you are military, ex-military, or the family member of either of those USAA may be your best bet: www.usaa.com.
