I have State Farm and will probably use them to cover the Smart for a bit, they are quoting me about the same as a MCS which seems rather high considering it costs much less. I am looking to change away from State Farm though, perhaps to Fireman's Fund, Grubb or maybe Farmers, will keep an eye on this thread to see how you guys fare and with what companies.

I work at the court house, and to get an estimate on taxes, etc. they couldn't find it (even the state DMV!). Then I had them look under Mercedes. Bingo! So if you can't get a quote, tell them to look under Mercedes!

I got a quote from AIG for $1,000/ yr and I have a great driving record. Seems 10 hippies high to me.

Thanks on the Allstate comment ...

when my car arrives I'll mention that they're quoting rates in case she comes up blank ... SmartBob did they find it as a separate listing or under MBZ?

I doubt that they researched it that far. This was 2-3 months ago. It was prolly based more so just on the type of car/engine/my driving record/our area etc... I asked about the Yaris and they quoted near $1600/yr. Sorry, I'll get something more definite when my time comes.

Managed to get the USAA automated quote site to give me a number: $150 for six months to add the smart to our other insurance. Still can't get it to accept the VIN, even using spdickey's 17 character number.

USAA insurance

jwight!
I just tried to get a quote from USAA.

Were in the USAA site did you get the quote?
Did you log in and then tried to add the SMART or just clicked on the get a quote link?
Because the get a quote page does not have the SMART car listed (not even under Mercedes).

Strider,

I talked to a USAA underwriter some months ago and they loaded my online profile with "Mercedes smart." Since then it comes up under Mercedes for me.

The first time my quote was $122/6-mos with the comment that it could go up or down based on loss history which they didn't have. A second online quote was $126/6-mos. These are net increases on my total policy, and accounting for less use of vehicle #1 and cancelling replacement vehicle coverage.
