they were so confused when i called did not know what to say and were side stepping. it was quite fun on my lunch at work today.

Gotta love it. the Pontiac is a used car, an orphan (model no longer in production) and the brand itself may well be history in a few months. That would all explain why they hope to sell it at less than half what it listed for new a year ago. Talk about depreciation!

Major issue here, thats an older 450 Smart Passion maybe worth only $6,000-$7,000. Could be less. Does any one know the year date, of it. Randy Reed ad has a major Typo!!!!! Just a STUPID play on words Ad.

Morons have a picture of a 450 and that model hasn't been made since 2007 and 2009 cheapest base is 11990 for pure. I don't know who would want their car anyway when a year from now no parts will be available as they brand is being dumped. I wouldn't want to buy a car I couldn't repair or maintain.

I have a 97 Grand Am I need to get rid of. A year ago it ran almost fine... now it's sit idle for that long and I'm afraid it's only good for parting out. How do cars age mechanically when they sit outside for a year? I'm sure the gas in the tank is probably mush by now. Would running it do damage or just not run properly?

Worst thing you can do is let it sit outside without running it ocassionally! At least once a month it needs a good run to get the engine up to temp, keep the battery charged and all the transmission and drive train gears rolling over. The gas tank should be kept full, too to prevent condensation, i.e. moisture in the tank.
Try to crank it up - it's worth the effort to keep it running if you ever need it . . . or sell it.

I do agree that that add was misleading and perhaps an insult to smart owners, but your statements about parts not being available for GM products is also incorrect. An owner of that car would be able to repair it and maintain it as is the case with any other. I currently own a motorcycle that is 25 years old, has not been produced for 21 years, and it can still be maintained and repaired. There are still parts available for it. The situation is no different from any other where a brand model has been discontinued. Parts supplies are stocked for many years and aftermarket suppliers continue to produce them as well.

Regardless of their poor judgement in producing that add, I feel that buying that Pontiac at that price may actually be a great deal, as they stated. If I was in the market for a car of that type it might be a serious option. The parts for the GM marques are interchangeable for the most part and Chev will still be produced.

I called the dealer and had a nice conversation with the General Manager. Told him I thought the idea was cute but that it was not quite correct. Also offered to help him do another ad that would be more correct. He thanked me and said he would get with his advert. folks. Result below.

Yes I know the picture is flipped but we can't always get it perfect.
