Makes no dif to me. Short trips my commute is 6 miles each way. Or a trip from Dallas to Austin and back about 400 miles both are a breeze especially in a cabriolet.

OK, I'll pi$$ in this pot: 5000 miles, round trip, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico to North and South Carolinas before any of you even had a Smart Car (except grey market ones). We were five days on the road, each way, for 500 miles per day. Piece of cake, even for us old timers, and a lot less gasoline than the Pathfinder would have used.

I will be doing a (approx.) 2,800 drive in early August.
San Diego to Flagstaff, AZ - 8/4
Albuquerque, NM - 8/5
Pagosa Springs, CO (near Durango,CO) - 8/6
Denver, CO - 8/7
Salt Lake City, UT - 8/8
St.George, UT - 8/9
Barstow, CA - 8/10
San Diego, CA - 8/11
Each city above is where I spend the night.

Just for FUN!
And trains and thunderstorms...

I will be carrying an APRS device. It sends out a message every 2 minutes giving my location, speed and altitude. I can be tracked on:
aprs.fi - that is the whole URL.
Just do a search on "smart" and look for me. You can look back to see where I have been from an hour ago to a week ago. This Friday I will be going up to Oceano, CA (near Pismo Beach) and can be tracked up there too. Coming back Saturday evening.
I have posted a screen grab from aprs.fi in the tech and gadget section under ham radio install. I could post a screen shot after every days drive here if people are interested.

1200 miles, Delaware to Louisiana in 22 hours. Not a hitch.

I recently passed the 2,200 miles mark, and I got my smart in February 2008. That's about 130 miles... per month!

The European Brabus wheels/suspension set up makes it a much nicer highway cruiser by the way.

I'm thinking about doing an Ohio to CA round trip vacation next summer. Just gettin' on the road and takin' my own sweet time. Did Ohio to NY and back over spring break -- loved it!

I did a leisurely 5600+ miles over three weeks in June. My driving days averaged 400 miles. It was bliss.

Just came back from a 1000+ mile roundtrip from Sacramento, CA to Las Vegas, NV. Of the 20 hours driving, 10 hours were spent driving through hilly desert country ranging from 106-112F. About 2 dozen vehicles were stranded on the road from overheating or other ailments, but the smart came through without a hiccup!

I've made the Tampa to Orlando run on I-4 several times now and it's just no big deal. It's absolutely no worse than Interstate driving with any number of other small cars I've owned over the years. Given my druthers though, 55-65 on the rural back roads is a lot more relaxing than 70-75 on the Interstate.
