Hi blackbeagle
Excellent question. The Civic is a lease and goes back this fall, so I have been looking for a replacement for some time now. As you note the Civic gets good (not great) mileage (40 hwy). It is absolutely dependable, comfortable, and really close to perfect (intrusive road noise not withstanding). In short it is dead boring!! We saw the Smarts all over Europe and just fell in love with them and couldn't wait for them to come across the pond. The Civic just doesn't do anything for me and the Smart does. Gotta push those buttons!!
Don't know about the snow tires. I have been running Nokians for years now but they aren't available in the size the Smart needs. I am going to run the Continentals this summer and do some research in the mean time. We have had 30+ inches of snow over the past week here in Bemidji. Streets are clear now and I hope that is the end of that for this winter!!
Cheers
Steve
