I hate to bring up the Yaris but I do know some Yaris owners who are equaling or bettering the Smarts. They are mileage extremists though - ultrahypermilers getting around 50-53mpg every tank and this crowd is very small.

Weren't Metros made of recycled beer cans? Just kidding - I just sold my Metro about a year ago. I loved that little car.

jefferios - don't frown the mileage always works itself out. Here's one of the many websites out there for mileage tips from the extremists - Click this linkIgnore the Smart haters there.:baby:

I have never seen more than 38 mpg

I use my AC, so I guess that costs me 4-7 mpg. I have tried the "feather foot" technique (letting off the gas between shifts). Nothing has every worked. I am getting about 33 mpg now.

That's much less than I've ever gotten on a tank. Are you mostly driving in a busy city? Or are you a lead-foot? I noticed a drop from 45 mpg to 35 mpg when I drove 65-70 rather than 55-60 on a trip recently.

51 mpg

I filled up when the tank was half empy. this time I used manual shifting only and much better gas mileage 51 mpg.
The 2nd time I got 39 mpg and was driving in auto only.
I love using the paddles and am learning how to drive this soooooo much better.

I got 36 mpg on my first tank, without even trying to be careful, let other people drive it, did some quick takeoffs and some highway driving at 85. Then I installed the scanguage right before the 2nd tank. Now I am averaging 44 mpg in the city. That feedback from the scanguage really makes you watch it. I think 50 mpg is possible, but you might tick off the people behind you, and I don't want to give them a bad impression of the Smart.
