Are you sure you didn't just now start reading the paper from two weeks ago. That was a news story then, and then it fell apart. I checked all the news outlets and didn't find even a mention of this for today.

What does either have to offer the other anyway? Trucks? Worthless cars? What?

I did see an article on CNN.com about the fed's possibly helping in the acquisition of GM taking Chrysler.

GM wants the US government (us) to help them buy Chrysler so they can have access to the cash reserves that Chrysler has as well as brands like Jeeps and the minivans. You know, those same Minivans that pulled Chrysler out of the last bailout.
Something has to fail. To many brands, to much repetitive compition.
