Just received from smart USA

For what it is worth...


"Dear Reservation Holder,

This has been a remarkable week for smart USA! On Wednesday we delivered the first smart fortwo in the United States and, as of today, deliveries to Reservation Holders are taking place at smart centers nationwide.

We appreciate how anxious all of our Reservation Holders are to take delivery of their very own smart fortwo. We also apologize for not being able to communicate more specific information regarding the status of your individual order.

Reservation Holders whose vehicles are in route from Germany have been notified by smart USA and their dealer. Within the next 30 days any Reservation Holder who has a confirmed order in production will also be notified by smart USA and their dealer.

For all other Reservation Holders, we are working diligently to provide you with a 90 day window for your anticipated delivery, based on assumptions available at that time. This information should be available by the end of March.

Again, we appreciate your continued patience and enthusiasm!

What happened?

I thought I read some where that all the dealers were going to be connected with computers and they would have access to all the reservation/confirmation information. What happened to that plan? I thought that was going to be part of the dealer grand opening (month) process. I guess we won't be able to run down to our local dealer and find out about our reservation/confirmation information (same that three times fast) soon!

A 90 day window is much better than the 120 day - or the inital delivery date of the second half of '08 that I got when I configured at the end of December.

Give these guys a break, the dealerships are just now coming on line, I know you're all dying for some information, but give 'em a week or so. My dealer rep. said that she has received a ton of emails, and between answering those, she's trying to get her own database of people waiting for cars.

I think the 90-day window language means that if you have already confirmed, they hope to be able to eventually (March?) give you a 90-day window of when you will get your car. Not 90 days from the confirmation....

Maybe for the people that aren't 1173's (like me) we could set up a sticky. It would ask you your age and then it would calculate how old you will be when you finally receive your smart! Just joking (sort of).

Yah 1447 sucks too. I think Im going to wait and see how people like them. Plus I just bought two cars within the past two weeks. ;)
