Just took my first test drive: WOW! :-)

As noted in my re-introduction, I've been out of the Smart market for almost four years now.

But now we're looking again, mostly as a good used car for our daughter, who will be driving in the fall. So today we tested out a 2008 Cabrio. What a blast! We were both grinning ear to ear! It took a few miles to get used to the short wheelbase compared to my Outback, and I already know what to expect with the tranny. Actually, shifting wasn't as bad as I expected.

We'll have to give this some serious thought. Sorta makes me regret canceling my original order!

Oh well. I once considered trading in after a few years. My personal economy has changed since then. Since my '08 is paid for, I'm planning to stick with it for a while. maybe I don't want to drive a 2012.

Nope, I'm a firm believer in not giving a kid a new car. She's 15 and will be paying for a car herself. She'll take care of it better since it is her own investment. I see too many kids given a new car and not take any responsibility for them, and then get another new one when they wreck the first. Even a 2008 seems too new for my liking.

Her big sister bought a 13 year old Miata when she was 15, paid it off, then in college bought a new Mazda 3 and paid it off before graduating. She thanked us for making her buy her own car, saying her friends didn't take care of theirs, or care about damaging them.
