So there's no way to walk into Smart Car Dealer and Buy it off right away, unless you make a reservation right? -_-)...

Unless you are exceptionally lucky and get the last one that no one else wants. But since there are at least 30-40 thousand people in line in front of you, probably not.

There is no discounting the 'greed factor' and with all of us watching, lord help the smart center who delivers a registered buyers car to a walkin with 10K over purchase price. Of course, that wouldn't be smart. (couldn't help myself)

If you have $40,000 or $50,000 walking into the showroom I bet they wouldn't mind selling you an orphan or one in their showroom.

Agreed! In fact I bet they would jump at a deal like that. ;)

Just received a reply from my contact at smart center Portland. They run their Orphan list by the book: 1) Priority is given to oldest reservation holders, with matching vehicle avaliable. 2) You cannot just walk into the dealership and buy off the floor, you must comply with above requirements. 3) Everyone on the Orphan List absolutely must be a reservation holder!

Apparently, there is still some integrity left!

I applaud that dealership. However, you can probably find a dealer that will sell you a car if you are willing to be flexible on colors, options, and most importantly dealer add-ons. Just read all the threads for guidance on the subject.

Sadly, I know you are absolutely right. From what I have read here, that flexibility extends to paying for lojack, custom wheels and tires, upgraded 'aftermarket' sound systems, etc. It's refreshing that some smart centers have decided to be different!
