This is kind of ridiculous!

Introduction: I drive a VW EOS, my wife owns the Smart. A yellow/black/black Passion convertible. This morning, I needed to take a box with me to the office. A cardboard box measuring approximately 24X12X20 inches. Not a big deal. After all, the EOS is about twice the size and volume of a Smart. Guess what? The box would not fit into the trunk of the EOS because 80% of the space is reserved for the hardtop, leaving just enough space for a briefcase - Of course, I could have put the box in the back seat but that would have meant either moving the passenger seat all the way forward to get access to the back seat or opening the roof. I had no time or patience for doing either because I really was in a rush. Solution?
Open the hatch in the back of the Smart, push box inside, close hatch, drive away! ... ... So the moral of the story is, the Smart is really a small BIG car in more ways than one. It is much bigger than most people expect it to be.

I tell people that it's bigger on the inside than the outside.

I remember an old Bugs Bunny cartoon where he ducks into a small tent in the desert. Inside the tent is huge with multiple rooms - the Smart's a bit like that.

small

I am forever getting out of the smart and as I turn to lock it , I say to myself "Did I get out of that little bitty thing"

i havent put the tape to it but it seems almost as roomy inside as the front seat of my caravan.

Happy driving

I was show my smart to a friend and he said that it has about the same amount of room as his Ford pickup with the extended cap. Just doesn't have the pickup bed.

I was also surprised that he said his Harley had more HP but got less MPG... I would much safer in my smart than his Harley.

I have a tiny little '63 Airstream trailer - and when someone comes in they invariably say "how can it be so much bigger on the inside than it is on the outside?" Now they'll say the same thing about my smart.

bigger inside?

I am reminded of the Chronicles of Narnia, Book #7 "The Last Battle"
As the world is dying (Narnia) the characters go through a door in a small hut and into "Aslan's Land which is much bigger than the inside of the hut. Thus bigger on the inside than the outside..... the cry "further up and further in" comes to mind when I climb in my smart!

I have another comparison.....Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Harry and friends are going to the quidditch tournament and are at a campground. Harry and friends enter tent. Looks like a 4 man tent from the outside. Looks like a three bedroom home with kitchen and dining room on the inside!
