Introduction: I drive a VW EOS, my wife owns the Smart. A yellow/black/black Passion convertible. This morning, I needed to take a box with me to the office. A cardboard box measuring approximately 24X12X20 inches. Not a big deal. After all, the EOS is about twice the size and volume of a Smart. Guess what? The box would not fit into the trunk of the EOS because 80% of the space is reserved for the hardtop, leaving just enough space for a briefcase

- Of course, I could have put the box in the back seat but that would have meant either moving the passenger seat all the way forward to get access to the back seat or opening the roof. I had no time or patience for doing either because I really was in a rush. Solution?
Open the hatch in the back of the Smart, push box inside, close hatch, drive away! ...

... So the moral of the story is, the Smart is really a small BIG car in more ways than one. It is much bigger than most people expect it to be.
