Leaky Car

I've had my '09 hard top Passion for less than three weeks and the hatchback leaks like a sieve! Water runs into the cargo area when I open the glass hatch and even leaks in when the hatch is closed. I'm tired of having to carry a towel and wipe the car down when there is even a hint of moisture in the air.

Is this normal or should I go back to the dealer?

not normal, take it back to get fixed. Mine gets a small dribble* on the inside every now and then, so its going in at the next service.

*considering the amount of rain we get here in Scotland, it surprises me that its not more than that!

if it leaks inside, the seal on the rear hatch is no good. They will most likely replace the rear hatch as it is bonded together at the factory and can not be repaired in the field, just replaced.

Is this something that could/would normally be done at the dealership the same day or would require some time?

Replacing the rear hatch doesn't take long. But getting the part can. Theymight have a better stock of them now as mine was diagnosed on my '08 about 3 months ago. There were other reasons that it didn't get replaced, nothing to do with the rear hatch.

I spoke with the service manager today at the Atlanta dealership and he told me that this is the second issue of this particular problem that they have dealt with. He told me to bring in the car anytime and they would replace the hatch while I wait.

I didn't think I'd be making a service call this soon after taking the car home.

Sorry, my final line gave the impression that the hatch didn't need to be replaced, it DID need replacing but the car was returned to Germany (I was told) to investigate another problem and the car was replaced. At that time, (a few months ago) there was a waiting list for the rear hatch.

If they are replacing the hatch, that would make it NOT normal. It still needs to be checked by the dealer. It is not uncommon to be back to the dealer when purchasing a new car. Be glad it is happening now instead of a the 26,000 mile mark.
