leather interior

when i wanted to buy a car i asked about having a leather interior installed, i had it in my prius and it was great, my dealer told me they would not install leather because of airbags, my prius had airbags too! so i found out where my toyota dealer had it installed, called them, then contacted the manufacturer, they said they do all the airbag testing and the govenment makes them do it!, the dealer lost a car sale here, i bought one in chicago instead, they did it with no problem, they said the company that makes the interior is so confident and so is there insurance company, they have a 50 million dollar liability policy. just wanted to say to the dealer in milwaukee(you know who you are) you lost a sale, and as i found out by talking to others with smart cars , that dealer has lost more than just me over this issue. i am way happy with this leather, oh the company that makes the air bag tested leather is Katzkin good luck all!

That's kind of strange, most dealers will install leather with no questions asked. Some manufactuers will even send pre-cut leather to just "pop on" and replace the cloth when needed.

I personally don't like leather interiors. The leather cracks with the sun/time and gets hot and burns your ass.

Are you talking about seats or the dash?

I guess since I didn't want leather I was entirly pleased with the service I have recieved from Smart Milwalkee

FYI, You could have just taken the car to have the leather installed after you purchased the car

I agree with tovilin about the leather seats. In my opinion leather seats are hot in the summertime and cold in the wintertime.I myself have never "warmed" to the whole idea of electric seat warmers. While it may be true that when you get in your car in the winter the seats are cold, they become tolerable fairly soon and I find no real reason to require any electric circuitry to to do what my own backside will do almost as quickly--- maybe I have more of a backside than you do---I don't know.As for the hot seats in the summer--I don't see anyway around it.I may be able to be convinced if there was an electric seat cooler.I actually prefer the feel of genuine cloth to sit on.

I would say if you need to have leather, go with a synthetic. Most are less likely to crack/wear and feel EXACLTY the same as the real stuff. Typically less expensive too! It works great for the Florida climate, may be different elsewhere.
