Ditto , Mine too.... They fixed it in about 45mins (Not the Las Vegas Smart Center, they couldn't fix it at all) At the Smart Center in Lindon Ut.

It's probably something minor, but I know how you feel. I had a new Nissan a few years ago that did the same thing. Turned out it was my fault - I swapped the new truck's gas cap with the old one's locking gas cap and the new truck didn't like it. The CEL went off after swapping the caps back around and driving for a while.

I also had Jeep Liberty that turned on the check engine light for a while when there was an extreme temperature fluctuation with a low tank of gas. Must have been moisture or something, but it went back out after filling the tank, making sure the cap was tight, and driving for a while.

For most vehicles, a solid check engine light indicates a minor issue while a flashing CEL means something more serious is happening. Hopefully you get good news from the dealer or it just resolves itself. St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner, so may the luck of the Irish smile on you and your smart!

This is totally insane! I went out to get breakfast at 5:30 AM and the check engine light is no longer solid. I don't get it last night when I posted it hadn't been a hour since I had seen it solid lite. I even went a few hours back on a post and posted results that it still was on solid even after checking gas cap (even though lose gas cap light wasn't on). This is nuts I have had many cars over the years and never had check engine light come on and now it's off so must be false alert.

I've already had my gas gauge not read as full after fill up. I went to next town over where dealer is and filled up at station next to them and of course gauge reads full so nothing for them to "fix". I'm going to be really interested in how full it reads when I fill up my tank this week. I want to get this whole gas gauge thing straightened out too so I can start accurately tracking my mileage using fuelly.com website.

I had a CEL on my Subaru. It wasn't flashing, but occasionally went off by itself for a while, then returned. It took three visits to the shop to figure out what the deal was (first time was just a "tighten the gas cap, clear the code, and wait"). It finally turned out that a small head gasket leak on one bank of the engine was upsetting one of the downstream O2 sensors. In diagnosing the problem it was evident that there was an issue with the sensor, but determining what the issue was took some sleuthing. Lots'a subtileties in the CEL net.

That sounds like the situation with my Grand Am. After replacing the intake gasket, I had O2 sensor codes gradually become more common... so with 120k I figure I'll replace the sensor. Then it moved to a bad MAP sensor.. then bad MAF sensor.. after replacing all those parts I just gave up and bought the Smart. I've spent less on a year of Smart payments than repairs for the Grand Am at shop rates.

The Grand Am's been sitting for the last 10 months, only moved twice. I need to find something to do with it once I find the title. Maybe I can donate it to a school. Other than going into open loop, it drove great.
