Now comes the mistake. I decided to surprise her by picking-up the car, drive it home and put it in the empty garage. Little did I know about what would happen next. My wife happened to be outside with the dog and saw me coming up the drive in HER Smart. She was royally pi**ed at me for having taken delivery alone and driven it home without her being along for the ride. I had to listen to it all evening. So, all of you guys with wifes or wifes with husbands or persons with partners, do not make the same mistake I made. Go together and enjoy the delivery show. Only when she made it to the office today and had all of her colleagues go ape over her cute tiny car, did her usually good mood return and we are again on talking terms...

Read my post in *did the car meet your expectations*......funny ..but I was lucky as I had already discussed with the wife if she wanted to be there for the delivery and she had indicated that it didn't matter....and........

I didn't get the ....."FINE!" business....all is well in this household thanks to some fore....sight!

Hi All and thanks for your comments. Much appreciated and I am sure most of you got a chuckle out of my post. Amazing what a little car like the Smart can do to ones psyche. In any event, I am happy to report that 24 hours later all is well. My wife has driven the car to work and back home today, a 75 miles roundtrip, with me in the co-driver seat. She LOVES the car. Sorry, I meant to say, she loves HER new car. Well, I do like it, too... :-)

That's great Bremer! Us married folk know that time is all we need when the pricklies, grumpies or gremlins hit! Glad everything is A-OK. And yes, your story was amusing; seems lots of people relate. Hope you get a turn driving real soon.

My husband hates the whole idea of the smart. He says he will not drive it or even sit in it. I would be happy if he would just drive me to the dealership to pick it up but he says that he will not...oh well...ALL MINE....Muhahahahahahahahahaahhahahahahahh

My wife just thinks of the smart as another one of my toys. I am sure when she sees one and drives it her opinion will change, if not then I guess I do not have to share it.

I feel your pain

My wife has been crazy to get a Smart for years, since we saw them in Europe. Our friend in Germany is on her second, a Roadster.

So last March 26th we reserved two Smarts, a Cabrio for her and a Passion for me. On Tuesday smart center Dallas called to say that one of our Smarts would be here in one to two weeks. Normally that would be great news, but as luck would have it MY Smart is the one that will be here first, and she is NOT happy about that...

This sounds all too familiar**one of those "love language" things. I like surprising my wife and she doesn't like surprises. It can reduce present purchases to a grocery list, but that's what floats her boat.

Personally, I find purchasing a car frequently as work. It's fun when you drive it away, but the rest can be a chore.

HINT: Tell her that she can drive yours until hers comes in...;)

I certainly can understand her wanting to be part of the excitement from the very beginning......and poor sweet you, damned if you do or if you don't.

However, that being said, for the goal ultimately is peace and tranquility in the household.

My suggestion.

Bling.......it works everytime. I think a diamond encrusted necklace spelling "smart".........would quell the loudest beast.

And then, how could she ever berate you again.....for just when she felt 'betrayed", she would feel that bright, glistening, shiny necklace and be overtaken by true guilt....

hehe.....it's a win-win

I WISH I had your problems. My wife will never get to drive my Smart because I'm leaving her.
