Let the 11-year-old nephew drive the smart...

At a police academy driving range this weekend. I taught him to drive my MINI when he was 8 (even shifting), but he hasn't had an opportunity to drive since then.

He picked it right up again so I let him attack the course on his own!

That's pretty cool. We have a son still learning to drive with his learner's permit and we haven't let him try my wife's Smart car yet. And would you believe it, we've only had the car since February and yesterday some lady rear-ended my wife's Smart car when she stopped for a traffic light. The impact was very minor however (maybe 4-5 MPH) and there is really no damage at all. The black hole cover on the driver's side popped out but my wife pushed it back in and that was it.
