Liquid crystal lubricants promise close-to-zero frictional losses

Here is an article on liquid crystal reducing friction. Could reducing the friction increase the miles per gallon? Could it make the Fortwo even more of a gas miser? Could it increase the horsepower of the little car?

I like the fact we still explore advanced technologies. The further friction is reduced, the better the economic aspects of the vehicle. Wow, and EV with liquid crystal might be able to go 300 mi. on a charge!! Thanks BigWrapGuy! Great article!!

Researchers report the Liquid Crystal lubrication products should be available in 3 to 5 years, and at release only for industrial applications. Maybe it will work it's way into the automotive industry and directly benefit us. Looks like real science to me, at least it's not Teflon!!

I second your comment Dunerunner....spot on.
German engineering is not snake oil. The company research in how the lubricants and coatings attach to the surfaces, what are their strength and surface energies, how do they break down, how do they self heal, how can they extend their life time, can they be reapplied to the surface at service areas, what are their performance benefits is well documented.
The research also provides info on the extreme abrasion and wear resistance, high impact strength, remarkably low surface energy, increased thermal conductivity and thermal transfer(what we are after in a good lubricant), high nonstick(release) properties, lowest friction(energy consumption) attainable, erosion and chemical protection, excellent corrosion resistance and wide temperature range.
Yes they also said that they are a few years away, but from the research, it will most certainly increase gas mileage, but for now all we got is Mobil 1.....and I don't call it snake oil...with or without lipstick....lol
