Locking Box for Cabrio

Has anyone come up with a way to secure items in the luggage compartment...such as a jeep box with access only from the rear???

well actually smart does sell two luggage compartment dividers which are accessible only from the rear, and there are numerous other boxes and dividers as well. Indeed there really no limit to what you can dream up....

i saw the cover that rolls back and that really didn't seem secure enough. I was also under the impression the cover used velcro. Where can i find the numerous other boxes?

I did forget you mentioned locking box. Haven't seen anything specific for the smart, but shop around at the various retail stores (Walmart, Target, office supply, automotive, etc) for ideas....as long as it fits, you can probably think of a way to secure so it doesn't move around.

once you find somemthing...don't forget to show us the pictures!

If you used 3/4 inch MDF, lots of glue and screws and a big honking lock you could probably build something pretty secure. Of course it would add 10% to the smart's weight but nobody could get into it.

Actually, with the alarm system the smart is sort of a big lock box on wheels anyway.

I think you sort of answered your own question. I would look for something made for a Jeep that will fit into the space you have. I have not heard of anything specific for the smart, but there are some really nice looking solutions out there for the Jeeps that have locking capability.

Just a thought: what about installing a lock to the tailgate "hidden" compartment?

Great suggestion! That is worthy of a little investigation.

lock on plastic=worthless
if someone wants your stuff, they will get it. I have a tuffy security box in my jeep and I thought it was secure. My cousin came over and said watch this. He opened it in under a minute with no damage to the unit.
