I bet you it will taper off once they get the Smart Center Coral Gables up and running.
Most of those looking for an orphan are looking for specifc model, color, options. When I told the dealer I wasn't picky, I just wanted a Smart ASAP, regardless of color, options, or model, I had the impression I would be getting a call sooner rather than later. 2.5 weeks later, that call came and I will be picking up my orphan on Friday. Don't be discouraged by the long list, and get on it if you want a car faster.
i dont see how orphans are not going to the next person on the registration list with a similar if not exact configuration. the dealers must be making a killing from the orphans. is this how the reserveration program were meant to operate?!
Nobody knows how the reservation program was supposed to operate and orphan policies seem to vary. Some dealers just seem to want to move them off the lot as fast as possible (so stay in touch daily) and others load them up with extras (so bring your checkbook).
I picked up an orphan at the weston dealership after putting my name down on the list a week later. I wasn't picky about they had. I am driving around Fort Lauderdale and Davie everyday without a radio. Also note weston has one of the highest dealer charge $500. I now have the red pure smart and still retained my reservation for a passion.
