Looooong trip ahead... Can my smart do it?

Hey fellow smarties...

My father is diying, and I live in NH and must drive to Montreal Quebec over the weekend. My car only has 2,500 miles on the Odo, I know its probably not a problem, but can the car sustain about 6-7 hour drive?

Anyone that has done long trips with the smart, could you be kind enough and tell me what I should be worried about or anything you have done to have a better driving experience with it? I am glad I have a cabrio, i'll drive probably the top down weather permitting...

Anyone chime in, I'd really love that...

Drove a 450 from Santa Rosa to NYC in 6 days, (taking the long way). No problems with my car back in 2006. And the 451 is even nicer!

Should not be a problem - the car is well past the break in period as well
(sorry about your father.......)

The trip is under 300 miles each way I presume? Should be no problem other than the slight numbing in your foot from holding down the pdeal for so long.

I drive roundtrip to Detroit at least once a month putting on 300 - 400 miles and 5 - 8 hours for the day. Not fun, but not a problem for the car.

Amethyste - Sad to hear of your father, lost mine two years ago. Your smart will do just fine. I drove 5 hours from my dealership to my home on delivery day!! I did take the back roads to vary the speed but you don't have that issue to worry about at 2500 mi. on the Odo. Plan a rest stop, if you want. Don't worry about the car.

I drove from Houston to Smithdale, MS (6 hours, I-10) and the next day from there to Mobile, AL (4 hours). The car will do fine. You'll do fine... may need to get out and stretch a couple of times but that trip was by far the most comfortable 6 hour drive I've ever taken. Heated leather seats were great, and I never got a leg cramp like I have in other cars. Without cruise, you'll get tired of holding the pedal but it's only a few hours, you'll be ok.

Just watch for crosswinds - if you expect them, slow to 60 and let people pass you. Two hands on the wheel and you'll be pretty darn safe.

Grab some poutine on the way, it'll cheer you up.

last month, my friend drove a smart over 7000 miles in a week, and his had a couple thou on the odometer (one lap of america/cannonball run) when he started. it's what you can withstand (i'm waiting for cruise control).
