I wouldn't put a Mercedes logo on a smart, but that's just me. Not my taste but to each his own.

It would be neat to create ones own logo and use it on the hood of ones Smart car. It would really give people some thing to talk about.

Exactly. Both smart and Mercedes-Benz (as well as Maybach) are Daimler brands. But the smart is not a Mercedes. Just like Chevrolet and Cadillac are GM brands...but a Cadillac badge on an Aveo would look lame.

I'm in the "smart isn't an MB camp". I mean, is simply is NOT a Mercedes. WTF, why claim it is?

Same here....my 4 year old car is a smart and proud of it, even though its diesel engine says "smart cdi - Engineered by Mercedes-Benz" on its intake plenum, that does not make it a Mercedes. The 451 smart is even further removed from that, with a Mitsubishi engine.

If the "Smith" family has a family crest, then, both the offspring of Don Smith, and Jane (Smith) Jones are entitled to use it, even though their actual names may differ. I think the same goes for SMART: it's built by Mercedes, PERIOD! The fact that Mercedes doesn't have a seperate emblem for the corporate persona versus the individual brands is their own fault!

The same would apply to GM cars. Sure, a Chevy is NOT a Buick, but, both, appropriately could display the GM emblem on their hoods. Ford, like Mercedes is both a corporate entity manfacturing a host of brands as well as it's own FORD brand. Any vehicle manfactured by the Ford company, properly, is identified as a FORD, including Lincolns and whatever foreign brands they've not yet sold off. Although it's doubtful a Lincoln owner would choose to display a FORD logo on his car's hood, it's certainly proper for him to do so!

Smarts ARE Mercedes, like it or not!

I think! ;)

Hello, I agree that a smart is a smart not a Mercedes. A matter a fact our smarts are just a division of Mercedes and not truly a Mercedes. Just like a Bentley is truly not a Rolls Royce.....lol.

smarts are built by the (name recently changed) "Mercedes-Benz Cars Division" of Daimler AG. The M-B C Division builds four product lines: M-B, Maybach, Mercedes-AMG GmbH, and smart.

Daimler's "Daimler Trucks Division" builds Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star, Thomas, Detroit Diesel, and Mitsubishi* Fuso. A Detroit Diesel isn't a M-B.

Daimler's "Mercedes-Benz Vans Unit" builds Mercedes-Benz "models" Vario, Vito, Viano, and Sprinter (badged as Dodge** and Freightliner). Yup, in this case a Sprinter is a model of M-B Vans thus a M-B.

Daimler's "Daimler Buses Unit" builds the separete brands of Mercedes-Benz, Orion, and Setra. A Setra isn't a M-B; it is a Setra.

* Note DAG's connection with Mitsu, similar to their connection with the Mitsu Colt-based smart forfour, and our 3B21 engines.

**Daimler still retains some minor ownership in Chrysler, at least for now.

N.B.: Daimler reserves the tristar for M-B named brands, including Mercedes-AMG. The M-B Cars Division does not use a logo for the division, nor does Daimler AG for the corporation. DAG's standard is a simple white flag with Daimler in blue.
