"Mercedes" Smart

The Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas is apparantly giving away a "Mercedes" Smart car, which hey have on display.

Strangely (?) the front of the car displays the Mercedes Logo, not the smart logo on my Passion Cab.

I'm wondering what this is, and whether there is in fact Mercedes branding on some models.

You too can drive a "Mercedes" smart?

Warm the front logo for a few minutes with a hair dryer (on LOW)
the glue holding on the logo will soften and can be removed (use dental floss if really stubborn)

Then just add a Mercedes tri-star and you have a "Mercedes" smart?

I don't know WHY you would want to do it? but, it is possible and easy?

You can also buy an older smart from Canada, a 450; with a Mercedes engine and you get the logo on the nose as well.

My insurance company lists me as "Mercedes Smart," I presume because of the VIN uses the M-B manufacturer code.

You do not get the Mercedes logo on the nose of the 450 (although it does say 'Mercedes Benz' on the engine).

No smart models have ever had exterior Mercedes badging.

The engine says "Engineered by Mercedes-Benz." As best I can divine, the engine was actually built for M-B by Suprex, a manufacturer of aviation superchargers.

When asked 'what is it' I have gotten to where I say 'A Smart by M-B' because if I just say 'Smart' I then get 'who makes that?'...so I have it down to one answer now.

I remember seeing two vehicles; one a Smart Fortwo and another that was the same size but labeled as a Mercedes.

It might have been this one that I saw.

Why not confuse folks even more and Put a Lexus, Cadillac, or Lincoln logo on it. It sure would confuse the dealers when someone comes in with questions about this little car they just saw with there logo.

Since Smart has spent zero dollars in the U.S. on brand identity most folks don’t know the smart logo, so it could be made by anyone you want and folks would believe it.

I put the hood ornment off my old Cadallac on my Plymouth Voyager. It fit in the same spot. I had a lot of people scratching their heads on that one. It was about 10 yrs ago when Cadallac didn't make trucks.
