MHD (start/stop) system

How will the Smart Car work if it gets the MHD (start/stop) system?

What will happen to the A/C if you get in a stop and go traffic jam in 90 degree weather ?

My guess is that if the AC is engaged, the engine won't shut down.

I would imagine that the A/C will be setup to run off electricity. It would likely remain operational at a stop light unless you were sitting for a long time. But there's no saying for certain until the details are made public.

i'm thinking along the lines of "timhood"......the smart mhd has a 'generator/starter' combo so in theory it's possible that while the engine may be shut off, the 'starter/generator' would still operate off the battery and drive the A/C compressor.

that's MY story and i'm stickin' to it!

i wonder if they plan on supplementing the existing battery and if so, where they're gonna put it - cuz an A/C compressor isn't going to run very long at all on the OEM battery alone.

In addition, the electricity-powered air conditioning system is, frankly, a joke.

MHD/start-stop will be standard equipment soon. Just read it on a blog yesterday. Sure wish it could be retrofitted to my car.

When I watch our BMWs mpg-computer display at a red light, go from 22mpg to 17 mpg -just sitting there, it illustrates how valuable MHD/Start-stop really is. Good news for those who still won't get their cars for a few more months.

Not true: mhd is NOT for US or Canada.
